Update: firearms discharge Marian Square

Detectives investigating a firearms discharge in Marian Square, Netherton, last night (Friday, 12 April 2019) have located and spoken to the male believed to have been shot at.

The male, who is 17-years, is uninjured and is refusing to co-operate with the police.

Officers attended at the scene following reports that a firearm had been discharged at a male by two males on a motorbike at about 7.30pm.

Crime Scene Investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the scene and house-to-house enquiries are ongoing in the local area. Officers are also examining CCTV footage in a bid to identify those responsible for the attack.

Detective Inspector Laura Lamping, said: “I am continuing to appeal to anyone who was in Marian Square and witnessed the incident to contact us, as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving around the area who may have dash cam footage to contact us.

“At this stage of our inquiries the motive for the attack is unknown although we do believe that the incident was targeted.

Merseyside Police will not tolerate the use of firearms on our streets and we are committed to finding the people involved in the incident and bringing them to justice.”
