Officers carried out a stop search of a Ford Transit van on St James Street at around 5.40pm last Friday, 5th July.

A quantity of cannabis was found in the rear of the van and the driver – a 60 year-old man from the Aigburth area – was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

A search of a property in the Aigburth area resulted in further drugs being seized together with £13,000 in cash.

A further warrant was executed at industrial premises in the Speke area and a cannabis farm with around 100 plants was recovered.

The driver of the van has been released under investigation and enquiries are continuing.

Superintendent Jonathan Davies said: “Operation Target was launched by the Force as part of our ongoing campaign to target serious and violent crime.

“One of the methods our officers use to disrupt this kind of activity includes stop checks and stop searches and on this occasion a van was stopped in Liverpool city centre and a quantity of drugs recovered.

“We know that drugs and drug supply are often linked with more serious offences including gun crime so this was a significant result.”

Anyone who has any information about drugs supply in their area is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
